Logistics

The prep and equipment list for Clinton is massive. Then again we ain't teens who can sleep on the ground with only a thin roll of blue foam and a sleeping bag anymore. Also setting up a kitchen that meets government regulations takes a lot of stuff. Forms sent off; fingers crossed.
I have a cooking list, sewing list, cleaning list, and packing list to slog through over the next 2 weeks. Pensic folks understand this well.

ZOOM BAFF ZOP da na na na na na KING LEAR!

Last night Aine and Dean were kind enough to grab the faboo Indian food and we all made a picnic in line at Bard on the Beach for King Lear. The food was amazing, the company awsome yet I didn't like the play as much as I really wanted to...

I'd never seen the play before and while there were some elements I quite enjoyed (Christopher Gaze was a great King Lear, Edward was good, the Nurse was great)... the costumes had some issues. I'm certainly not opposed to Shakespeare being set in different time periods... but this time it didn't really work. It was supposed to be set in the future at a time when England and France are back at war. Yet why men were dressed in rumpled pinstripes and tweed with rubber boots and women seemed to be dressed as mid-1980s secretaries or black-leather clad female anti-heros... was a little unclear. Plus the storm scene was enacted by people moving in slow wave-like motions and making swooshing noises... I swear I saw that in the 1970s Batman show during an underwater fight scene with the Penguin.

Though I do see that the Tempest has period costumes, I'd love to see that this year. Any takers?? :)

a quiet moment....

whew...the last week has been...well, interesting, and probably one of the most challenging I've been through in a while. Amazing how some things, if taken on their own are not fun, but not overwhelming, yet too much of said things can be miserable. Suffice to say I've survived, and am even looking forward to enjoying life again.

The new job has been...well...good, and yet rough. They're the type of company that immediately throw you off into the deep end. "Organized" chaos seems to be the norm, and from what I've heard, the only consistent thing there is the inconsistency. At least there are some very nice people who work there, and they seem to like me :)
Amusingly enough, the salesman used to sell to my Grandfather when he owned the DQ in Richmond.

Moving Auntie this weekend, and it should be interesting with the 4 official helpers, my 85 y/o Aunt sitting at the new place waiting for us to arrive, and then her two friends who are coming to "help". At least I do have good people helping. And am planning to visit the outdoor pool afterwards. Worse case scenario, I know where the rum is. (j/k)

Dance practise tonight...should be good.

paperwork

Bleh.
I just did a two page cover letter for my food vendors application that will get faxed off with the official forms since the government forms don't really had places for info regarding unusual situations.
If they say no I'll just switch over to private shared war kitchen and that will be it.
Good news is no fee for this one.Whoot. An upcoming event has a $100 fee so I'm gonna say no to that.

Ж-Men...but not the ones you might expect!
This week LJ Russia launched Ж-Men, a new comedy series about superheroes, inspired by the LJ communities dedicated to superheros, comics and cartoons. The title's "Ж" comes from ЖЖ, the nickname for LiveJournal in Russia.

Ж-Men's script is written by a group of LJ enthusiasts who also happen to be television professionals. Who knew? Following the premiere, five more episodes will be broadcast over the next two weeks. We hope you find the series fresh and enjoyable.

This is, of course, an experiment for LiveJournal. As always, we'd love to hear what you think!

The King's Merchant

The King's Merchant is an analyzer of situations, but function to repair problems. They prefer dealing with tangible problems and proven experience. They are naturally quiet and open to information and new approaches. Because of this they are a useful source for information.

They may be introverted, but are adept at controlling interactions with others, and may be forceful concerning their influence. They focus on efficiency and skills. The balance they bring is one that encourages groups to think then act. They are capable of holding a cool head in stressful situations and help others assess the reality of any situation. They can be difficult to understand because they do need space to charge. Communication is key here; others need to realize that the King’s Merchant communicates without the need for verbal cues.

The King's Merchant prefers to practice their passion in seclusion. The result however is one of virtuosity that other types find difficult to match or even out do. Because they focus highly on the task at hand they may fail to see the long term expenses. They may also not communicate their understanding of a situation having expected others to see it in their most practical way. They are valuable assets for friends. You should be pleased scoring as a 'Pawn' - it proves that you are a constructive and contributing member of society.

The universe is not fair

Helen Miran looking so awesomely fucking sexy hot at 62. Good genes and good living. Oh lordy I didn't even look that good in my prime 20 years ago.

Into the sunset

Dave is taking the car in tonight and then in the morning he's off to the dealership for his shiny new toy.
So a toast to the silver 96Honda Civic hatchback with 210,000km, 5 accidents, and more load hauling than what it was designed for yet is still ticking along enough to be a good used car for city commute on a tight budget for some new driver.

[info]sucrelefey

Wicked colour

My crocosmia has bloomed this year. The well named breed Lucifer is beyond devil red. It's slinky hot dress on a luscious woman red. Sadly our camera can not handle the colour and filters it. Now if only the violet purple gladiolas, plum black hollyhocks and touch of amber day lilies were also in bloom along side it. Can you picture that? Go ahead and pull out the crayons and test the colour combo on paper.

[info]sucrelefey

Hands off

So someone trampled my irises to get at the garden hose. Suspicion rests on the construction crew 3 doors up the alley. Well the mooches were running extension cords across the alley to another house's exterior outlets. I can't stand it when cheap lazy incompetent contractors help themselves to other people's utilities rather than you know properly set up the hookups for construction on the actual property. Freeloading gits.

[info]sucrelefey

Would you believe

I've been Google image searching for pictures of lye burns on the eyes. I'm fine guys, I just have a character that suffered some damage and is blind; I want to know what it looks like after healing and scarring for when I describe it. I know what it looks like fresh thanks to our industrial first aid texts. I had forgotten how old of a discovery lye is and had gone a different route thinking I needed something more pastoral feudal but now I'm back to basic caustic burns.

[info]sucrelefey

Now I'm all drippy

Even though the temperature dropped I still got to sweat by the bucket load to the point of dehydration risk while cleaning. A cool shower rinse before bed then. Still have a few more hours of cleaning in the bathroom to go and then there's the kitchen.

Clinton War food vendors

For those not on lists.

"Greetings all

Because there is no requirement that merchants pre-register for this event, I am posting this to the lists. Please pass this missive on to anyone you know of that may be considering selling food at Clinton War this year.

I am the Merchant Liason for Clinton War. I have been in contact with the Food Inspectors for the Thompson-Nicolai Regional District and they will be coming out to inspect our booths this year. They are anticipating coming out at least twice.

We must comply with the food safe rules - the three sink washing system, some way to keep hot food hot and cold food cold and gravity fed washing station for the cooks, but the big one is..no using water from the creek until its inspected and passed. All water in all of the food booths must come from town..and that especially includes for washing dishes and hands. I am hoping we can get someone willing to do the water runs to town during the work week and war. Last year Mikail of the Bardic Lights was kind enough to do it. I have not heard from him yet this year.

You need to apply for a sellers permit from them as well. The permit is free. You have to contact the Thompson Nicolai Regional District 250-395-7676 fax number 250-395-7675 to get a permit.

I look forward to seeing all of you again this summer

In service
HL Genevieve Barbota of Gryphonshold

I didn't know Yvonne like you did, but my heart still breaks for each and every one of you.

I hold you all dear to my heart and I hope you can feel my virtual hug and my shoulder for you to cry on.

Growing pains

I see the forum members are trying to come to terms with change and growth as new comers sign up. Well folks had gotten comfy in their little club like haven over the years so that does get you into a conservative mind set. I don't think we are at risk of being the xenophobic gated community elitists clique that some places turn into but I know there will be gnashing of teeth over anything new and different. Of course there are temptations to be small townish and call any outsider that shakes things up troll and with all the wankers that have been roaming around bored on the net the mod senses are tingling. But I like to see some expansion of the spectrum as there are ruts in some threads.

Got the event hobbles. It was a very small and quite event and I was not run off my feet, but I was broken to start going in. Now it's all prep for the end of the month.
